What space
do you mean?
Welcome,
welcome, welcome - Dear Contributors.
In today's
day and age we are no longer worried about studying. Why? Because the days of
struggling or paying to get information is long gone. It literally takes a
click of a button and voila! We have 1000's of answers, solutions or comments
about the topic at hand.
It is
insane, we even have MOOC's. What is a MOOC? (google it, find out and contribute if
you like).

Enlightening Statistics About MOOCs

Some might find the above stats interesting while others find it
useless. Before we had free access to educational
courses we were in a space (pre 1985)
where we did not even have free / easy access to world news. CNN was the first
channel to provide 24-hour television news coverage as per wikipedia and the article further comments :-
The CNN effect
Coverage of the first Gulf War and other
crises of the early 1990s (particularly the infamous Battle of
Mogadishu) led officials at the Pentagon to coin the term "the CNN effect" to describe the perceived
impact of real time,
24-hour news coverage on the decision-making processes of the American
government.
John
Kiesewetter explained:
"CNN has changed news. Before CNN, events
were reported in two cycles, for morning and evening newspapers and newscasts.
Now news knows no cycle. When a plane has crashed, or shots are fired in
school, we expect to see it immediately on all-news channels. We don't depend
on the Big Three broadcast networks. The turning point point came shortly after
CNN's 10th birthday, when Bernard Shaw, Peter Arnett and John Holliman provided
play-by-play of the 1991 Gulf War from a Baghdad hotel. The Gulf war proved how
CNN had changed the world. U.S. military leaders chose their words carefully
during televised press briefings, knowing that Sadam Hussein was watching CNN,
too."[4]
What do you think the impact free access to
information (space) has on the business’ decision-making process?

Cannot wait to see your comments!
I like the idea of free courses that we can do...i just have some questions...how widely are these courses recognized. and what will happen to people if they do these in work hours.
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting Lucas. Let's see if someone can answer your question. If nothing within 3 days then I will comment.
ReplyDeleteciao ciao
@Lukas:
ReplyDeleteCourses through Doro Ella will be recognized by the GOSCOR group and will impress any manager if you include it in your CV and if relevant.. I don't know of any manager who will stand in your way if you want to do a Doro Ella course during working ours. It is all about time management.
Re MOOC's: Depend on what institution you use to do the course through. If you do any course via the internet you will have to do your homework well on the institution to make sure they are not a fly by night company. Most of them will be recognised or be taken into account if applicable to the new position you apply for.
I fully agree that we can benefit from doing courses via Doro Ella. I also agree that we can spend time during luch time and after work for let say 30 minutes to enhance ourselves with further knowledge. Time management is important as Jan-Hendrik has pointed out. But if you are focused you will be able to cope and still do 110% in your daily tasks at work.
ReplyDeleteI have to add another comment: Some of the personal computers in the offices has free access to the Internet (Facebook and Google) and that it get abused. Staff will go in freely all day long and do shopping or chat. This is unfair.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I'm aware, it's not accredited in other companies. But as I understand it, it will help you grow in the business itself and improve your skills.
ReplyDeleteWe are not discussing doro-ella programs we are discussing MOOC's. What do you think of MOOCs.
ReplyDeleteAccredited programs? Anyone interested in discussing the value between accredited and non-accredited programs? If so I am happy to discuss this but would like some input from you first. ciao ciao.
MOOC is a massive open online course (MOOC). MOOC is a model for delivering learning content online to any person who wants to take a course with no limit on attendance..
ReplyDeleteIs that not then a reason that we can access such learning contents on Doro-Ella. Doro-Ella is an important part of my life whilst I am at work. If it is any other MOOC, we will utilise then company hours to study for something that is not used in our daily working envirnment.
DeleteThe learning on both accredited and non-accredited programs are valuable to me as an indivudual. Knowledge cannot be taken away from you. I feel that some people are misusing the fact that the company is paying for a course/program and all that is happening is to get the get the certificate and still have no knowledge afterwards. A program has to be inplace whereby the employers gets tested if they are not doing the same job spec as the course/program completed.
ReplyDeleteTreat your fears like a child. Anger should give you inner power. Be angry at the situation, not the person!
